Apple Beach (PRAIA DAS MAÇÃS shown on the map in red), where we live, is located between Oilmills of the Sea (AZENHAS DO MAR also shown on the map), home of my namesake Jorge Sá Pessoa, and Big Beach (PRAIA GRANDE also shown on the map), home of PGSA. The cliffs hide small creaks where sand is only visible at low tide a couple of times a year like Mindelo or  Bico da Messa.
For example, at Mindelo sand was visible on 14 January, 2001 around 1 pm just as I arrived from a NBER conference in Florida On 8 and 9 December, 2001 around 3 pm sand was visible north of Azenhas and I was able to find my way there thanks to the help of my namesake. Jorge subsequently found from 93 year old Dona Ermelinda the name of that beach and of five others south of Aguda, and several years later we labeled the crucial rock in that perilous path Jorge's stone. On 3 January, 2002 Apple Beach was over 1 meter higher and extended some 200 meters North in the direction of Mindelo, which was back to its normal appearance.
On 29 March, 2002 (Good Friday) beaches from Mindelo to Aguda were extremely large at low tide around 9:30 am, and the same was true of Grande on 30 March and of Mindelo on Easter Sunday.
Points of interest in the map, other than beaches:

·  Cabo da Roca, Europe's Westernmost point (West coast of Ireland seemingly included)

·  Colares, known for its "bullet" wine Until  it was torn down, on 2 August, 1999, we could see a magnificent gothic mansion, also known as Mindelo. The mansion was replaced by a new road, which allowed us to build our camino real to the sea.

Commuting routines

This map shows the West Coast of Lisbon, and in green the Sintra-Cascais protected natural area.
South of Praia da Samarra are
Magoito Beach (Praia do Magoito, not shown)
Acute Beach (Praia da Aguda, not shown)
Between Praia das Maçãs and Praia Grande, for a time the wallpaper for my hobbies site: Little Beach (Praia Pequena, not shown)  now it is Mindelo Beach (not shown either)

The map also shows the commuting route via Cabo da Roca and Turnpike A5 or via Sintra and Highway IC 19.
This implies 30 minutes to one hour of music until we get home.
