Lusophone activities at OECD

On November 6, I I presented a paper on  The experience of the OECD with public private partnerships for development (item 311 in list) at an economic panel on "Angola XXI century: stability and development", sponsored by the Angolan Embassy in Lisbon

On 21 October, I presented a paper on  The experience of the OECD with public private partnerships for development (item 311 in list) to the 5th Euro-African convention in Bordeaux.

On 16 October, I co-chaired with Mr. Mario Machungo a meeting on "Better government for a better business environment" organized by Africa Hoje magazine in Maputo, Mozambique, where I presented OECD work on public private partnerships and the proceedings of the pevious conference in Luanda Angola. The newly appointed President of the governing committee  of the OECD Development Centre was represented at the meeting.

On 12-14 October I represented the Secretary General of the OECD  at the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (Macau),  and presented a paper on  Economic co-operation and development among Portuguese-speaking countries: The experience of the OECD with public private partnerships for development (item 311 in list). The OECD delegation also included Joaquim Oliveira Martins, from the Economics Department, and Phillipe Ferreira, consultant to the Development Centre.

On 19 September at RDP Africa, in Lisbon I presented the publication including the proceedings of the Luanda seminar on "Better government for a better business environment" (item 294 in list) .

On 18 September, I presented a paper on Future Perspectives of Economic and Social development in Portugal portug at the Arrabida Meetings 2003 on Third Sector, Social Responsibility and Economic Development.

On 15 and 16 September, I attended the 13th Lisbon Meetings held by Banco de Portugal and distributed copies of the publication including the proceedings of the Luanda seminar on "Better government for a better business environment" (item 294 in list)

On 17/18 July, I represented the OECD at the VIII Council of Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries meeting in Coimbra, Portugal and presented a paper on lusophone activities, available here.

On 13-16 July, I attended the NBER Summer Institute in Cambridge Mass.

On 10 July,  I attended a meeting of the Euro50 group at the European Investment Bank in Luxemburg and visited the Direction Générale du Développement of the Luxemburg Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exchange information on activities in Cabo-Verde.

On 7 July, I gave a lecture at the 9th Economic Policy and Management course of CERDI in Clermont   Ferrand on  Is the experience with peer reviews of the OECD and EU portable to the NEPAD?

On 26 June I co-chaired with Mr. Carlos Feijó a meeting on "Better government for a better business environment" organized by Africa Hoje magazine in Luanda, Angola, where I presented OECD work on public private partnerships and the African Economic Outlook. The conference was featured in the July issue of the magazine and the proceedings appeared as item 294 in list.

On 10 March, I presented a paper on Public Private Partnerships for Development at the International Academy of Macau China. It is available here.

On 4 March, 2003 I presented the second edition of the African Economic Outlook to the Business Council Europe Africa Mediterranean chaired by Jean Louis Castelnau of CIAN and in the presence of the President of ELO, Luis Sousa de Macedo. The meeting took place at Hotel Sofitel-Bercy in Paris.

On 1 October, 2002 I presented the first edition of the African Economic Outlook and the prospects for the Mozambique economy at the conference on public private partnerships in Maputo, Mozambique. The Portuguese version of the  report on the conference was sponsored by the Institute for Tropical Research, Lisbon (IICT).

On 25 September, 2002 I made a presentation on public private partnerships at a conferencia sobre O "Development in Portuguese", held at Portuguese Embassy in Luanda, Angola.

At the invitation of the Portuguese Foreign Ministry and ELO, the Development Centre made two presentations to the First Business Forum of the Portuguese-speaking Community (CPLP), held in Lisbon on 27 and 28 of June, 2002.On 27 June, 2002  My powerpoint presentation  on public private partnerships is available (in Portuguese) by clicking on the flag  and a report on the proceedings is available on the Centre's website, together with pictures and a report on Cabo Verde by Colm Foy (click here).

On 12 April, 2002 I chaired a round table on Communication and Empire at the IICT, where a paper on Democracy and Development was presented by Colm Foy, drawing on joint work subsequently published by the Korean Development Institute.
