Nova Forum Executive Training Program

Macroeconomics and Foreign Aid (1997)
I  organized  an advanced course in the political economy of African cooperation, directed towards officials of the Instituto da Cooperação Portuguesa (Institute of Portuguese Cooperation, which has become IPAD) and of similar institutions in the Portuguese-speaking countries. This course - held in the executive training center Nova Forum - reflects  my continued interest in lusophony. This course also obtained the support of the Development Economics vice-presidency of the World Bank and of the Development Aid Committee of OECD.

Classes took place during the month of  November. The final session is scheduled for January 1998, after participants present their report. Aside from coordinating the course, attending the sessions with guest lecturers and offering review and evaluation sessions, I tought  macroeconomics adapting the approach used in ISEGI to African economies, and using proofs of Bill Branson's textbook on "Macroeconomics for Developing Countries". The original program and calendar were amended in response to participants suggestions. This was also the case for the program of macroeconomics, where the last two topics were dropped.

Political Economy of Mozambique (1999)

A second course directed towards officials of aid agencies in Portuguese-speaking countries dealt with the specific case of Mozambique. It was offered in January 1999, and I presented the global and African background. One of the readings (in Portuguese) is available here. João Cravinho, who later became the head of the Instituto da Cooperação Portuguesa (Institute of Portuguese Cooperation, which has become IPAD) presented his doctoral research on the peace-making  process there.

Financial Globalization and the Euro (2000)

From 28 April to 23 June,  I gave a series of five lectures in a special graduate course in Financial Markets, Institutions and Instruments offered by Nova Forum in cooperation with the Porto Derivatives Exchange titled Financial globalization and the euro.
